Garbage and Recycling

The Village of Brownsville contracts with Waste Management for garbage and recycling pick-up. Pick-up is every Thursday for garbage and recycling. Look at the calender above for specific dates.

Starting the week of July 1st, 2013, recycling will be picked up weekly!

Remember !!! If a holiday falls on Monday - Thursday pick-up will be on Friday.

Also, the Village is pleased to announce the convenience of Single Stream Recycling. No more sorting!!!! Simply put ALL recyclables in the cart and your done. But please do not include: food waste, films, plastic bags, plastic wrap, or styrofoam.

Each property owner is charged a special assessment of $120.00 each year to help defray the costs of garbage and recycling pick-up.  An additional $25.00 Recycling Fee (Misc. Fee) is being added to your tax bill to off-set the increasing cost of recycling pick-up. The Village is able to repair damages to your cart, from normal wear and tear (usually the wheels)  for no charge. But the Village WILL NOT replace your cart free of charge. If you lose your cart, or it is stolen, YOU are responsible, do not leave your cart at the curbside overnight as thefts have occurred. Protect your bin.

Please remember the electronics ban here in Wisconsin. Electronics are to be recycled and NOT discarded in the trash. For a two-sided poster with more information on E-Cycling click HERE!!!

Included in our contract is bulky pick-up, watch the announcement page or calendar of events for specific dates.

As for yard waste, the Village has a compost pile and brush pile on the south end of the park. All brush may be taken to the brush pile and all other waste (grass clippings, leaves, weeds) can be deposited on the grass pile where it will compost. This seems straight forward but as any who use this can attest to, each find their way to the other. PLEASE, using the appropriate pile saves everyone a lot of grief.

Composted material is available for free from the pile, (the rearward one, looks like black dirt) take as much as you wish, it's great in gardens, around bushes and trees, and a DPW favorite, mixed with soil and grass seed for quick germination and rich green color!

The Caucus for two trustee positions and village president of the Village Board is set for the night of Jan. 9th @ 6:00. The posistions held by Trustee Kemmel, and Trustee Westphal, Village President Bloohm are up for re-election. Those interested in..
